Rams Head is thrilled to announce an exceptional presence at Maryland Hall on October 9th!. Four time Grammy award winner Esperanza Spalding, a stunning composer, bassist and vocalist with grace like no other. The Oregon born and raised musician was a child prodigy playing with the Chamber Music Society of Oregon at the young age of five. At just 15 she was a concertmaster, composing her own music and playing the acoustic bass professionally with local bands and at 20 she became Berklee College of Music’s youngest- ever instructor.
In 2011 Spalding made music history becoming the first jazz musician to win Best New Artist in the Grammy’s, beating out artists such as Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine, and Drake. Her newest album Emily’s D+Evolution is a testimony to her artistry. In the album, Spalding sings with a brilliant gusto, each song carrying its own identity and still blending into the feel. Spalding gives her all into her performances, making it something you truly need to see.
