And so the adventure into unknown territory continues…
On March 13, 2015, I went to The Hamilton in DC for the first time. Why? My favorite folk/country trio, The Lone Bellow, was playing.
I’d seen them 3 times prior, and I fall in love with them more and more each time. This was their first tour on the heels of the release of their second album, Then Came The Morning (and the show sold out before the album was even out!!).
The experience my friends and I had at the venue before the show was great, too. My friends and I each ordered food and drinks, including “Marietta” punch (the special of the evening named after a song on their new album). And before you knew it, it was showtime.
The band brought their usual foot stomping/heart-tugging/gut-wrenching tunes that had me on an emotional rollercoaster for 2 hours. The way they arrange their harmonies and feature the voices of all 3 members throughout the night is perfect. The female member, Kanene, has a sultry, haunting voice that leaves the hair standing on the back of your neck. Put all 3 voices together, though, and I just sit back and melt.
If you’ve never had the chance to see them live, check out my favorite video of them, singing “You Never Need Nobody” from their first album.
