Boo’z Hump Day Helper “What day is it?”

So I am driving into work today and I am listening to the radio as most of us do. But first I have a confession to make.  I am a scanner, I listen to whatever station comes in next and listen until I am dissatisfied.  Some days it’s talk radio, others it’s the HOT MIX station that your teenagers listen to in the morning.  Today I find myself listening to a small station, and they say it is “National High School Radio Day”.  I thought to myself ‘I had no idea this existed’ and exactly how many of these official “Days” are there.

So with a little research from my good buddy (insert search engine here) I found out.  Did you know that April is:

  • National Humor Month
  • International Guitar Month
  • Keep America Beautiful Month
  • Lawn and Garden Month
  • National Poetry Month
  • National Pecan Month
  • National Welding Month
  • Records and Information Management Month
  • Stress Awareness Month
  • Sexual Assault Awareness Month

I also found out that this week is Organize Your Files Week as well as Medical Labs Week. But I digress. This is about days, and today, April 23rd is National Zucchini Bread Day (do we really need this?),  World Laboratory Day (OK scientists need love too) and Take a Chance Day (now we’re on to something).

With this in mind, I decided to see if I can create my own day – not for me, but for something specific.  So I went back to my  good friend (insert search engine here) to find out how.  To create a “National” day is a lot of work. It takes an act of Congress, literally.  You have to contact your local congress person, get them interested, and then hope it makes the congressional agenda while they are still in office.  Other “Days” are created by companies, special interest groups, sports teams and others by simply declaring it so (now that’s what I’m talking about!).  With that in mind:

(I know, I know, it’s not a week or a day, but we like things a little different around here)
