October 2013 At-A-Glance at Rams Head On Stage

For your convenience, I’ve categorized our October shows by genre. I hope to make it as easy as possible for you, my little live music enthusiasts.

For The Rocker:

October 3rd & 4th we’ve got the BODEANS. Remember “Closer To Free”? If not, Google it and you’ll say “OH YEAH, that one!”

October 10th we’re bringing back EDDIE MONEY by popular demand. If you missed him last time, it was a great show!

October 11th, WILLIE NILE w. DAN BERN. Willie Nile has a new album out called American Ride. Pretty cool. And you’d be hard pressed to find anyone more prolific than Dan Bern. Bern is a consummate generalist, logging time as a singer songwriter, guitarist, novelist, and painter. His writing has drawn comparisons to the likes of Bob Dylan, and Woody Guthrie.

October 12th is YACHT ROCK REVUE: A TRIBUTE to 70’s ROCK. By blurring the lines between a tribute, an original act, and a comedic troupe, the Yacht Rock Revue has forged a unique niche market and a special bond with their fans. For this show we’re actually getting in a dance floor. So get ready to Boogie.

October 29th we have PETER WOLF, the lead singer of the J. Geils Band. Remember “Centerfold,” “Freeze Frame,” and “Love Stinks“?

Got the Blues?

October 1st is BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO. I know, I know, maybe not ‘true’ blues, but you’ll hear so many blues influences with these Zydeco/Creole artists. This is always such a fun show!

October 9th, The “Father of British Blues” himself, JOHN MAYALL. I know you can feel the enthusiasm in his photo:

October 27th I’m calling a “Day Of Blues”: We start off with the HOMEMADE JAMZ BLUES BAND for an All Ages Matinee at 1pm. Then stick around for some beers and football in the Tavern so you can catch these talented ladies, SHEMEKIA COPELAND & DANIELIA COTTON!

Jazzed about Jazz (with a little R&B mixed in)?

On October 2nd TAKE 6 will be here: This legendary a cappella group sings in a contemporary style, integrating R&B and jazz influences into their devotional songs and has ten Grammy wins, ten Dove Awards, one Soul Train Award and two NAACP Image Award nominations.  Such talent!

October 8th we bring you BWB featuring NORMAN BROWN, KIRK WHALUM & RICK BRAUN. WOW what a lineup!!! If you love Jazz this is a unique chance to see these three Jazz greats jamming together. Individually, they are three titans of contemporary music: Rick Braun, the gifted trumpeter/flugelhornist with the golden voice; Grammy Award-winning tenor saxophonist Kirk Whalum, the Memphis-born wunderkind who mixes Beale Street, gospel, the blues and bop; and Norman Brown, the Grammy-winning guitarist who brings a Louisiana lilt to his Wes Montgomery/George Benson influenced six-string soulful strut.

October 17th we’ve got GERALD ALBRIGHT and then on Saturday, October 26th we’re bringing back ART SHERROD JR with Ann Nesby!

October 31st we have Grammy and Academy Award Winner, REGINA BELLE! She done some beautiful Jazz and Gospel vocal work and is most recognized from her duet with Peabo Bryson in the movie Aladdin, “A Whole New World”

If you like Singer-Songwriter Indie- Pop-Rock-Folk, we have these five performers to choose from:

October 6th we have the lovely and talented VIENNA TENG performing with Alex Wong. She’s got a brand new album out called Aims, to be released any day now (scheduled for September 24th) so the audience will get to hear a lot of new material from her!

October 7th is COLIN HAY‘s “Finding My Dance” tour.

October 13th we have MASON JENNINGS with Haroula Rose opening up for him. Here’s Mason’s video for his song, “Bitter Heart:

October 18th & 19th singer-songwriter, MARTIN SEXTON is visiting us again after a two year hiatus.

October 20th AND 23rd we welcome RICKIE LEE JONES back to the room, known for her unique singing style, especially during live performances.

Here’s a couple of Country-infused Rock (or Rock-infused Country?) shows:

October 22nd we have PAUL THORN BAND w. Cris Jacobs opening up. FOR FANS OF: Roots Rock Music, Delbert McClinton, Jason Isbell, Joe Bonamassa, Freedy Johnston.

October 5th PHIL VASSAR is back for two shows! Gotta say, such a good songwriter, performer, and really, a truly nice guy!

For some SUPER fun, upbeat live music, check out these two:

October 15th & 16th we’ve got BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY, as energetic as EVER.

October 25th is a band called FAMILIAR FACES. Formed through the influence of the CHUCK BROWN era, this group will get your GOGO goin’! Plus, we’re bringing in a dance floor right next to the stage!

Don’t forget, whenever you come to one of our shows at Rams Head On Stage, ask about the Performance Package, where you’ll get 10% off of your dinner check in the Tavern, a complimentary post-performance mug of beer, validated parking and more!

As always, email me with any questions you may have (what should you make for dinner…? How tall is the tallest man alive…?) at lprice@ramsheadgroup.com or post a comment below.

One more thing:

Like us on FACEBOOK and follow us on TWITTER (I supposed technically that’s two more things).
