Summer Cookout Beer Dinner: Fordham, Dominion, and Devils Backbone Brewing Companies

The Fordham and Dominion ‘Invites’ series of beer dinners not only showcases the beers you have grown to love at Rams Head but also presents other world class breweries from around the country.

With Fordham and Dominion’s roots deep in the mid-atlantic, the brewery has paired up with another brewery in the region, Devil’s Backbone out of Virginia. The Summer Cookout offers a delicious 6 course, 9 beer paired dinner, with the breweries going head to head in 3 of the courses.

Fordham Brewing was originally established in 1703 by Benjamin Fordham (where Rams Head Tavern stands today) at the request of Queen Anne. Fordham played a key role in helping the new colony flourish. 300 years later, the brewery was re-born in 1995 and provided fresh made daily beers to Rams Head Tavern using time honored traditions and the latest in brewing techniques. Fordham quickly outgrew the space and moved to Dover, DE where the brewery still resides. Then, in 2007, Fordham Brewing purchased the Old Dominion Brewing Company from Ashburn, VA. After two years of running two brewing facilities, Dominion joined Fordham in Dover in 2009.

In 2008 Devils Backbone Brewing Company was founded by outdoors-man Steve Crandall in Nelson County, Virginia. To this day the brewery is still deep rooted in sustainable practices and quality beers. Their brewmaster, Jason Oliver, strives to create beers that are approachable, preaching that “intensity of flavor is not equal to quality of flavor.” Since 2008 DB has won numerous medals and awards including Small Brewpub and Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year (2012 Great American Beer Festival). The growth will only continue into 2013 as DB gears up to move into Maryland!
