This Friday Jan. 11, 2013 Jimmie’s Chicken Shack is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary by playing a show at Ram’s Head Live in Baltimore. It all makes perfect sense that we are doing this at Rams Head and in Baltimore. When the band started, I was living in a walk-in closet that I rented for $100 month in a house on West Hamilton Alley between Maryland Ave. and Park Ave. Jim Mcd and I started by writing some acoustic tunes while DJ Sun honed his skills at all hours of the night. Eventually I moved back to Annapolis where I rented a porch in Bay Ridge. 3 out of the 4 original JCS line up worked at the original Rams Head on West Street in Annapolis. They had no venue at that time, just the basement bar, the tea room and the patio. Che’ and I worked in the kitchen, and Jim Chaney waited tables. After our shift at around 2 or 3 in the morning we would go to the “aggravated house” on Route 3 and practice until 6 am. I actually lived in my mini van for a short time behind the Rams Head.

Well, fast forward 20 years and rams head has spread to I don’t know how many venue locations and our band (though the members have changed) is still banging out tunes. It made sense for us to do the 20th anniversary show at Rams Head Live in Baltimore because Baltimore always felt like our home. Our first real gigs were at the Rev. We played Chambers, Club Midnight and Memory Lane. We played parties at warehouses. We played sold out shows at Hammerjacks and played insanely fun shows at the 8×10, where we eventually taped our first video for MTV’s release of “High”. For the first time in over 15 years all of the original members are going to share the same stage.

When the show came up it just made sense to ask everyone who has ever played in the band if they wanted to sit in for a few songs. Only 2 members are unable to be there. We have people traveling from L.A. and Las Vegas to be a part of this show. We have fans from just as far coming out to enjoy what will be a splendid night of ear ringing fun. Our original sound man Jamie, who now works for Jane’s Addiction,  is coming out to mix and record us. We will be reprinting a version of one of our original t-shirt designs just for the occasion as well as myself and a friend of mine who collaborate on artwork have put together a limited edition silk screen poster that will be for sale. If you have ever seen us play before, we hope you will come out again and relieve some of the fun we’ve had over the past 20 years. If you have never seen us before then come out and see what fun you have missed out on.

can’t wait for the show
