Rosie Parks Oyster Stout Beer Release: October 4, 2012

It’s back.  Fordham Brewing Company”s Oyster Stout is making a triumphant return!!  This Thursday, October 4th Fordham’s Oyster Stout will be released under a new guise, Rosie Parks Oyster Stout.  Rams Head restaurants will be releasing the beer at 4pm with $4 limited edition glassware and $1 refills until 6pm.

What’s it taste like?  Rosie Parks Oyster Stout is a medium-bodied stout with a roasted malt character. We add real oysters and oyster shells to give it a slight briny flavor.  Bravo & Glacier hops are added for slight bitterness but mainly for flavor & aroma.  ABV 5.2% IBU 27

So what’s with the name change?  Fordham Brewing made the decision to bring back their popular oyster stout recipe to promote an important cause.  The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) is in the process of restoring Rosie Parks, a skipjack that once dredged the Chesapeake Bay for oysters.  Originally built in 1955 by Bronza Parks, Rosie Parks is one of the least altered skipjacks still in existence.

According to Fordham, “The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum approached the brewery at the beginning of the year with the request for local beer at their fundraising events.  We decided to do them one better by using our beer and bottle artwork to bring attention to the Rosie Parks restoration project.   It is important to us that future generations understand the cultural history of our Chesapeake maritime community.”

Where can you get it outside of Rams Head?   Rosie Parks Oyster Stout will be available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft.   She will be premiered at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Oysterfest on November 3rd.  For more info, visit or call the brewery 302.678.4810.
