Ready to be roasted

We’re exactly one week away (Jan. 21) from my roast at Rams Head Live, with proceeds benefiting the Cool Kids Campaign. It’s for a really good cause, and it promises to be a good time.

I mean, you can’t put a price on watching people take turns hurling insults at me, but tickets are $25. Scroll down the Web site that I linked and you can order them. We want to pack the place.

The only thing worse than being insulted in a room full of people is being insulted for charity in an empty room. Like I need another reminder that I’m not as popular as I tell everyone.

Former Orioles catcher Rick Dempsey will emcee the event, and scheduled speakers include former Baltimore Colts running back Tom Matte, former Ravens offensive lineman Wally Williams, former Orioles pitcher Dave Johnson, MASN’s Amber Theoharis, The Sun’s Peter Schmuck, 105.7′s Jeremy Conn, comedian Alabama and Mark Viviano, who works for everybody.

Williams, part of MASN’s Ravens coverage, was kind enough to accept the offer yesterday on short notice. He joked that I’ve made the big time when people want to roast me. I think it’s just their uncontrollable urge to tear me down, which usually is done at Happy Hour or through late-night text messaging.

I expect Schmuck to go easy on me, since we’re good friends and have known each other a long time and used to work together and would live together in spring training for six weeks and…

I don’t have a prayer.

Since this entry is mostly about me, here’s another reminder that I’ll be in studio with Tom Davis for today’s Koji Uehara press conference, which airs live on MASN beginning at noon.

What are the chances that Danys Baez joins Uehara in the rotation? Team president Andy MacPhail told me earlier this week that he’s “inclined” to give Baez a shot in spring training, since the right-hander has expressed an interest in working out as a starter.

Also, MASN is asking fans to submit their favorite Orioles moments from the 2008 season, along with reasons to look forward to the future. Send your thoughts and opinions, along with your contact information, via e-mail to
